Chris Rugila is the latest addition
to the 2010 brass staff
The Atlanta CorpsVets Drum and Bugle Corps is proud to announce the latest addition to their brass staff for the 2010 season. Chris Rugila is currently the Director of Bands at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC. Prior to his arrival in Charlotte he was the director of bands at Decatur High School and Middle School in Decatur, MI, from 2006-2009.
Chris graduated Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University in 2006. He holds a B.A. in Music Education. While at EMU he performed in the Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Marching Band, Symphony Orchestra, Collegium Musicum, and the Huron River Brass Quintet.
In addition to his public school experience, Chris spent two years as a performer with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He began his drum corps instructional career as a brass instructor with the Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005 and served on the brass staff at Phantom Regiment as a mellophone tech for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Remaining active as a performer, Chris played French horn in the Quintessential Winds woodwind quintet and also in various orchestras and bands. In those moments when he is not instructing bands or teaching drum corps, Chris enjoys golfing and spending time with his fiancée, Anna, and his two Shar Peis, Emmot and Toby.
Joining the staff at CorpsVets, he will be reunited with Alan Armstrong, Chip Crotts and Freddy Martin whom he taught with at Memphis Sound and Phantom Regiment respectively. The corps is excited about this new addition and look forward to Chris' first visit to rehearsal in January.
The corps will rehearse next on Saturday, January 9 and Sunday, January 10 at their permanent home for 2010, East Coweta Middle School in Senoia, Georgia. For more information or directions, visit the corps website at www.corpsvets.org.
